Systemic Vascular Diseases and Cataracts: Treatment Strategies and Current Approaches

Abstract
Cataract is the most common cause of preventable blindness in the world and affects mostly the elderly population. Apart from the elderly population, cataract is also closely associated with systemic diseases. In the last century, some systemic diseases are more common in the population due to lifestyle changes and sedentary lifestyle. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and hypertension are the most common systemic vascular diseases. In this review, cataract pathogenesis, preoperative, perioperative and postoperative management strategies of DM and hypertension are discussed.
