Choroidal Findings In Systemic Diseases

Abstract
Choroidal layer, that comprises the posterior part of uveal tissue and is responsible for the nutrition of posterior third of retina, has the highest blood flow per unit tissue. Metabolic diseases like hypertension, diabetes and systemic diseases such as hemoglobinopathies, blood dyscrasias and autoimmune diseases may effect this highly vascular tissue. Thus new developments in imaging technology and evaluation of choridal structure and vasculature may provide new tools for early diagnosis and follow up of several systemic pathologies.
