Choroidal Anatomy, Histology and Physiology

Abstract
The choroid is one of the body’s most bloody tissues, located between the retina and the sclera. The oxygen and nutrient needs of the outer retinal segments, including the photoreceptors, are provided by the choroid. In addition to these functions, it plays a role in light absorption, thermoregulation, and positioning of the retina. Therefore, any pathology affecting the choroid layer may impair retinal and retinal functions.
