Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy

Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is the second most common hereditary optic neuropathy, following dominant optic atrophy. Advances in genetics made it possible for further investigations to be made on genetic features of the disease and new treatment modalities. Although genetic features and clinical findings of the disease is well defined in scientific literature, LHON is an important diagnosis to consider especially in differential diagnosis of optic neuropathies seen in adolescents and young adults.
