Laser Treatment in Central Retinal Vein Occlusion and Macula Edema

Abstract
Central retinal vein occlusion can result in severe visual acuity loss that is a common retinal vascular disorder. There are two distinct laser treatments: Grid and scatter panretinal photocoagulation. Grid laser aims to reduce macular edema and improve visual acuity. The aim of scatter panretinal photocoagulation is to reduce VEGF burden by ablating peripheral ischemic retina and to prevent the development of neovascularization in the retina, iris, and angle or to provide regression if developed. Laser photocoagulation is currently performed in combination with intravitreal anti-VEGF and intravitreal steroid treatments, but not alone in retinal vein occlusion.
