Optical Coherence Tomography Findings in Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Edema
Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the major causes of vision loss in patients with diabetes. Classical diagnostic methods for diabetic retinopathy like ophthalmoscopy, fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography, do not provide detailed information about retinal morphology and thickness. Optical coherence tomography is utilized to obtain quantitative measurements, morphologic changes such as cystoid macular edema, subretinal fluid, vitreoretinal interface features, photoreceptor layer changes. For this reason optical coherence tomography has a very important role in the diagnosis and follow-up of diabetic maculopathy.
