Adaptive Optics In Retinal Imaging

Abstract
Adaptive Optics (AO) is a new instrument that provides high resolution imaging of retinal microstructures by correcting the aberrations. AO has been used to integrate with the different retinal imaging systems such as, fundus camera, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, fundus angiography and optic coherence tomography. As a result, retinal images with nearly diffraction-limited resolution that allows the exploration of the cellular details of the retina. AO is still at early stages in ophthalmology and has some limitations. However recent times there are a lot of studies evaluating the clinical applications and advantages of AO. These studies indicate that AO will begin to be used more widely in retina clinics in the near future.
