Optical Coherence Tomography in Vitreoretinal Interface Disorders

Abstract
Optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is in use for about 20 years, facilitated the evaluation of vitreoretinal interface, improved our understanding of its pathologic processes and paved the way to new treatment approaches. By order of appearance, time-domain, spectral-domain and swept-source OCT technologies redefined vitreoretinal interface disorders and their treatment modalities. This article reviews normal age-related changes in vitreous and vitreoretinal interface, as well as processes such as abnormal posterior vitreous detachment, vitreomacular adhesion, vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membrane, full-thickness macular hole, lamellar macular hole, macular pseudohole and associated disorders as imaged by OCT.
